It always makes us happy if we succeed in making a design interact with its surroundings harmoniously, especially if they become mutually dependent. With this design for a hotel and a golf and polo club in an old and derelict estate, we succeeded in doing that for the first time in our design practice. The idea was to approach the new buildings as a kind of implant or pacemaker. The estate dictates and the design injects new life into it. The proposition is based on the reconstruction of High Renaissance gardens that included buildings. The buildings adopt all design principles of the garden and disappear into it, as it were.
